In 1996, Inside Business christened the Business Hall of Fame of Cleveland as a way to celebrate the city’s 200th birthday. In that first year, 100 business leaders from the past and present were inducted into the Business Hall of Fame. The inaugural class included Lorenzo Carter, Cleveland’s first settler; Moses Cleaveland, who lent his name to the city; oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller; and industrialist Cyrus Eaton, among many other key contributors to Cleveland’s business history.
On its fifth anniversary in 2000, this celebration of business and civic excellence officially embraced regionalism and became The Northeast Ohio Business Hall of Fame. Each year since its inception, a blue ribbon committee made up of business and civic leaders in Northeast Ohio select a small class to induct into the Business Hall of Fame. These honorees have been the men and women who have helped to create Northeast Ohio’s industries and shaped the area’s economic landscape.
