Tech Savvy? I thought Dan Hanson’s column, “Do You Take Visa?” (July) was well researched and presented. Too many Americans want to bury their heads in the sand and keep the “foreigners” out when employers can’t find the talent needed to keep their businesses going. Bob Madison Help Wanted I just finished reading Dan Hanson’s “Get In Sync” column (August), and I agree with some of it. Some of the lack of computer engineering talent is due to young pe...

Brand Impact   I was dismayed to see the article “Google: Your Bottom Line’s Best Friend,” in the Entrepreneur’s Toolkit (July 2008). The emphasis was on trying to advertise one’s business via placement on search engines such as Google, getting your company name at the top of a keyword list and paying for “hits.” First of all, more information is coming out about fraudulent use of click-throughs, with some estimates as high as 1/6 of the clicks being phony....

CRAZY FOR CLEVELAND I am a Floridian who moved to Cleveland within the last six months. I knew for more than nine months that I was moving to Cleveland and discussed this new venture with many friends, peers and acquaintances in Florida before moving. I never met any fellow Floridian who was also moving to Cleveland. So I find it surprising that there is a “movement” of dedicated Floridians headed to Cleveland. I happen to find Cleveland surprisingly delightful. It is a great place to live. ...

Sinful Pleasures   In the August article, "God Inc.," (Senior Pastor) Paul Endrei says, "It's a sin to bore people in church." But perhaps the greater sin is to indulge their desire always to be entertained. I find Endrei's secular approach to religion shallow and troubling. It's religion "lite" — a doctrine of self-improvement, feeling good, financial success, marriage and career counseling and, of course, entertainment, with a little religion sprinkled in between. John Stuart Mill, the 19th...

Not Cynical, Just Honest In Michael Roberts’ July column, “A Reality Problem,” he is not being cynical in his view on the city of Cleveland — he is merely being openly observant, honest and, I’m sad to say, right on the money. As a native Clevelander, the state of our once great city brings me to tears. There is a lot of talk, plenty of committees, a lot of money spent on “studies” and ideas put forth. Unfortunately, the two important things Cleveland lacks are ...

A Reader Disservice
Issue: March 2007 Issue
I was disappointed to read Michael Robert’s recent column (“Bad Blood,” February issue) about The Cleveland Clinic. It inaccurately depicts the institution, its accomplishments and its core mission of providing patients with world-class medical care. Throughout its 86-year history, The Cleveland Clinic has built a global reputation by providing the most advanced medical care by continuously innovating, finding cures and new treatments that dramatically improve the quality of life for t...

Spread the Word
Issue: February 2007 issue
Thanks for helping us spread the word about the value of Lake Erie and the Great Lakes. Great article! (ìHow to bring 2 million people to Northeast Ohio,î December issue.) I grew up in Lake County and I believe it is very common for people in Northeast Ohio to take the lake for granted. Articles like yours will certainly help the situation. Keep up the good work. An Honest Mistake Those of us residing in Oberlin are pleased and proud that Eric and Jane Nord remain in our midst. While your recognition of Eric among Inside Business’ 2006 Business Hall of Fame inductees (October issue) is certainly appropriate, his inclusion among those honored posthumously is not. That designation would be applied more accurately to Evan Nord, who, with his brother, transformed U.S. Automatic into the Nordson Corp. known today. Carol Hoffman Oberlin   Uncovering Truths ...
